Teaching and Learning Benefits of Volunteerism
The Radius Project invites neighbors to view a short film about local volunteer opportunities. After the film, we conduct a Q&A about the long-term benefits of volunteering, educational experience, relationship building, wellbeing, and impact on their community.
Volunteers benefit significantly from volunteering through improved physical and mental health, new skills and career opportunities, stronger social connections, and a greater sense of purpose, boosting self-esteem and life satisfaction while reducing stress and combating depression by engaging with communities and contributing to meaningful causes.
Physical Health: Volunteering can lead to lower blood pressure, reduced heart disease risk, more physical activity, and better management of chronic pain.
Mental Health: It reduces stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression, while increasing happiness, life satisfaction, and a sense of purpose.
New Skills: Learn valuable skills like leadership, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and technical abilities in real-world settings.
Career Advancement: Gain work experience, build resumes, test out career paths, and make professional connections, signaling responsibility to employers.
Build Connections: Meet diverse people, make new friends, expand social networks, and feel a stronger sense of community.
Boost Confidence: Develop self-esteem and self-worth through accomplishment, helping others, and feeling needed.
Sense of Purpose: Find fulfillment and meaning by contributing to something larger than oneself, aligning actions with personal values.
